Hotels in Sithonia

Not every trip wants a villa. For a couple, a short stay or a first visit, a small hotel with breakfast on the terrace and someone at reception is the better choice. Sithonia is the second leg of Halkidiki, the one people come back to. Pine forest runs down to small coves, the road loops the peninsula past Nikiti, Neos Marmaras and Porto Carras on the west, Toroni and Porto Koufo at the tip, Sarti and Kalamitsi on the east and Vourvourou with its islands in the north. Villas are spread out, quieter and closer to nature than on Kassandra.

What to check: whether breakfast is included; distance to the beach and whether it is walkable; parking, which in old village centres can be scarce; and the pool, which in small hotels is usually shared with a dozen rooms, not a hundred. For groups we can hold several rooms in one hotel, or combine a hotel for the grandparents with a villa for the rest.

Sithonia fills in July and August; June and September are the locals' months, with warm sea, open tavernas and easy parking. Hotels in Sithonia are easier to find at short notice than villas, so this is also the page for a spontaneous week in June or September.
