Nea Fokaia
A fishing village with a Byzantine tower on the harbour, between Sani and Afytos.
Nea Fokaia is the fishing village of Kassandra’s north-west coast. The fifteenth-century tower of Saint Paul stands on the rock above the harbour, the fishing boats come in below it in the morning, and the tavernas on the front sell what they brought. The village was settled by refugees from Fokaia in Asia Minor in 1922 and still has the feel of a working place rather than a resort.
There are two beaches: the small sandy one in the village by the harbour, and the long beach north towards Sani, with sunbeds in places and open sand elsewhere. Sani with its marina, restaurants and summer festival is ten minutes away, Afytos with its stone houses on the cliff ten minutes the other way, and Nea Moudania’s market fifteen minutes. Thessaloniki airport is fifty-five minutes, one of the shortest transfers on the peninsula.
Villas are in the village and on the coast road towards Sani, several with pools and views over the gulf. Nea Fokaia suits people who want a real village with fish on the table and the resorts within reach. Ask us for a shortlist with your dates.
